When Should You See a Gynecologist?

You don’t need to wait until a problem becomes serious before seeing a gynecologist. You may want to book a consultation if you have:

  • Irregular, painful, or unusually heavy periods
  • Pelvic or lower abdominal pain that doesn’t go away.
  • Trying to conceive for over a year without success.
  • Planning a pregnancy, or already pregnant.
  • Unusual discharge or symptoms of infection.
  • Menopause symptoms you want checked or managed.
  • A routine check-up, even when you don’t have symptoms, to discuss recommended screening and any changes in your health.

How to Pick the Right Gynecologist in Chattogram

A few things worth checking before you book:

Before booking an appointment,  consider what you actually need help with. If you are looking for fertility treatment, for example, you may want a consultant with experience in infertility or IVF.

For pregnancy carem experience in obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy may be more relevant.

It’s also worth looking at the hospital’s facilities, particularly if you’re planning maternity care. Labor and delivery services, NICU facilities, laboratory services, and imaging can all be important.

Finally, choose a doctor you feel comfortable speaking with. Gynecology often involves discussing sensitive concerns, so feeling at ease with your doctor matters.

FAQs

What's the difference between a gynecologist and an obstetrician?

A gynecologist treats women’s reproductive health in general periods, infections, screenings. An obstetrician manages pregnancy, delivery, and the period right after. Most consultants at AIH, including everyone listed above, are trained in both.

Yes. IVF and IUI are both available through the Prottasha program, led by fertility specialists including Dr. Reshma Sharmin.

No, you can book directly through the appointment line or by calling the hospital.

Call 09610-847-847, or use the online appointment page to pick a doctor and a time.

A gynecologist can diagnose and treat a wide range of women’s health concerns, including irregular or painful periods, PCOS, ovarian cysts, fibroids, vaginal infections, pelvic pain, infertility, and menopause-related problems. If you have persistent or unusual symptoms, a consultation can help identify the cause and guide appropriate treatment.
